Replacement means the whole old door comes out and a new door goes in. It is worth considering when several sections are damaged, the door is badly out of balance, or repairs keep coming back.

There are three different jobs that are often confused. Panel replacement fixes one or a few damaged sections. Garage door installation covers fitting a new door, often for a new opening or a first-time fit. Full replacement, this page, is for an existing door that has reached the point where replacing sections one by one no longer makes sense.
That point is usually reached when the door is warped, rusted through in several places, badly dented across multiple sections, or so out of balance that springs, cables and the opener are all under strain. A single repair can still be the right call for a door that is otherwise sound, and that is why the door is inspected before replacement is recommended.
If only the motor has failed, see opener installation instead. If the door is sound but noisy or slow, maintenance may be enough. Replacement is the option when the door itself is the problem.
The old door, tracks and hardware are removed carefully, with the opening checked for level, squareness and any rot or damage.
The new sectional door is fitted, balanced and aligned, with springs and cables set for the weight of the new door, not the old one.
The existing opener is checked against the new door weight and height. If it is not suitable, replacement options are discussed before fitting.
The door is tested through full cycles, safety reverse is checked, and remotes and keypads are paired before the old door is removed from site.
Sections, springs, cables, tracks and opener are checked together, so replacement is recommended only when repair is no longer sensible.
Door style, insulation, size and opener compatibility are agreed in advance, with a clear estimate before work starts.
The new door is fitted, balanced, and tested through open, close and safety reverse cycles before handover.
Replacement is worth discussing when several sections are damaged, the door is warped or rusted, it is badly out of balance, or repairs keep returning. A single damaged panel on an otherwise sound door is usually a panel job, not a full replacement.
Not always. The existing opener is checked for weight, height and safety features. If it is suitable, it can stay. If it is old, underpowered or missing safety sensors, replacement is discussed before the new door is fitted.
Most replacements take most of a day, including removal, fitting, balancing and testing. Timing depends on door size, opener work and whether the opening needs attention.
The old door and hardware are removed from site as part of the job, unless you ask to keep a part. That is confirmed before work starts.
If your question is not listed, call the local team and describe what the door is doing. That detail usually points to the right next step.
